Vitrunids are a species of insect common throughout Sordane, often referred to as “crystal termites” due to their tendency to consume large amounts of sordalite. Because of this they are a serious problem in sordalite mines as well as on ships, causing companies to lose fortunes and ships to crash. Vitrunids are required to consume sordalite as part of their life cycle, only undergoing metamorphosis from larval to adult state after consuming vast quantities.
